Issue #11 - The right kind of competitive product or service
Durable competitive product usually has very strong brand value attached to it. The brand name is so strong that people associate a general product/service with its name. For example, when referring to the itmes below people will first think of some brands to associated with them.
Hamburger - McDonald's, Burger King
Soft drinks - Coca-cola, Pepsi
Chocolate - Hershey's
Chewing gum - Wrigley's
Pizza - Pizza Hut, Domino's
Bread - Gardenia
Microprocessor - Intel's Pentium I, II, III, & 4
Computer - Apple's iMac
Computer operating system - Windows XP, Mac OS X
Handphone - Nokia, Motorola
Furniture - IKEA
Motorcar - Toyota, Honda
Luxury motorcar - BMW, Mercedes
Sneakers - Nike
Jeans - Levi's
Watch - Rolex, Swatch
Toothpaste - Colgate
Newspaper - TheStar
Pewter crafts - Royal Selangor
Airline - MAS
Credit card - MasterCard
Internet broadband - TM's Streamyx
Courier service - FedEx, DHL
Satellite TV subscription - Astro
Other than that, if the product/service are used by consumers continuously throughout their lifetime then such demand will increase the durable competitive advantage value of the company producing the product. The key point here is consumers want to buy or use the product/service many many times.
Another indication of durablity is the company producing the product/service can manufacture or provide the service year after year without needing to significantly increase operational cost.
Now, what product or company has a strong brand name in property market? Does SP Setia and Island & Peninsular has a strong branded property project that consumers can identify them from the rest of the 105 companies in property market.

Since I am not familiar with property market in Klang Valley, any help to identify which property development project has strong branding value is appreciated.
